Montserrat Gudiol painted the oil painting of Saint Ignatius on the occasion of the fifth centenary of his birth (1991). The painter explained that to be inspired she read the autobiography of Saint Ignatius, in which there is a clear break in his life. The background of the canvas is dark and shows the past of his life, where he lived for the vanities of the world. At the moment of his conversion he begins a new pilgrimage and dresses as a pilgrim. The palm of his right hand is open upwards, because the new path that Ignatius began was to seek and find the will of God. The palm of his left hand is facing downwards, because Ignatius, a man of great psychology, lived with his feet firmly on the ground so as not to deceive himself
